What visitors see

A polished lock form — not a generic WordPress error page.

The password form is styled to look intentional. No clashing with your theme — all CSS is scoped and guarded with #pb-root.

  • 🔹 Indigo gradient accent bar — distinctive
  • 🔹 Lock icon with purple-tinted background
  • 🔹 Red error banner on wrong password
  • 🔹 Amber lockout banner after 5 failed attempts
  • 🔹 Works on any WordPress theme

How it works

Three steps. Under 60 seconds.

1
Install the plugin

Upload pageblocker.zip via WordPress Admin → Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin. Activate.

2
Set a password in the editor

Open any page or post. A Page Password metabox appears below the editor. Type a password and hit Save.

3
Done — your page is locked

Visitors see the password form. Enter the right password, get a 12-hour cookie — no re-entering on every visit. Remove the password anytime by clearing the field.

Built for real sites

🛡️
Brute force protection

5 failed attempts triggers a 15-minute lockout per IP, per post. A clear banner tells visitors when they're locked out.

🍪
Secure session cookie

Correct password sets a 12-hour cookie — HttpOnly, SameSite=Strict, Secure. Raw password never stored.

💡
Optional hint callout

Add a hint in the metabox and it appears above the form in a styled callout. Great for client portals where you've shared the password by email.

📄
Per-page passwords

Every page and post has its own independent password. Protect as many as you like — they have nothing to do with each other.

🎨
Theme-safe CSS

All form styles are scoped under #pb-root with !important guards. Zero conflict with your theme or page builder.

🧹
Clean uninstall

Deleting the plugin removes all post meta from your database. Nothing left behind.

Common questions

Does it work with custom post types? +

PageBlocker protects standard WordPress pages and posts. Custom post types are not currently supported.

Does it replace WordPress's built-in password protection? +

Yes. PageBlocker intercepts content via the the_content filter before WordPress's own password feature applies — and provides a much more polished, secure replacement.

Will it break my theme or page builder? +

No. All CSS is scoped under #pb-root with !important guards. It works alongside any theme or builder.

Is this a subscription? +

No. One-time purchase (or free). No license key, no annual renewal, no phone-home checks.

Where is the password stored? +

Passwords are stored in your WordPress post meta table. The session cookie stores only a salted hash — the raw password is never written to the browser.
